17 Feb General Food Avoidance List When Cleansing
For cleansing/detoxification success, it’s best to avoid processed and refined foods and avoid the foods listed below (as well as any food sensitivities/allergies you may have). This avoidance list couples well with the Digestive Restoration Program and its 4Rs (rest, repair, restore, reintroduction). FRUITS
Avoid: oranges, orange juice, fruit/juices/spreads/preserves with added sugars, grapefruit, pineapple, mango, cantaloupe.
VEGETABLES
Avoid: corn breaded or creamed vegetables.
LEGUMES
Avoid: soybean products: tempeh, tofu, soy milk, textured vegetable protein, edamame, wasabi peas, soy sauce
FISH
Avoid: Shellfish, farm-raised seafood.
RICE/GRAINS
Avoid: Cornmeal/flour, corn starch. Foods with wheat and wheat flours, processed cereals, gluten-containing products: spelt, kamut, rye, barley
NUTS/SEEDS
Avoid: peanuts, peanut butter. Salted. Roasted.
DIARY PRODUCTS & MILK SUBSTITUTES
Avoid: milk, cheese, cottage cheese, cream, yogurt, butter, margarine, ice cream, non-dairy creamers, soy milk
ANIMAL PROTEIN
Avoid: egg substitutes, whole egg, beef, pork, veal, sausage, poultry fed hormone/antibiotics. Breaded patties, fish sticks, shellfish, warm water fish. Processed/canned meats, cold cuts, frankfurters (hot dogs).
OILS
Avoid: Butter, margarine, shortening, spreads, processed and hydrogenated oils, mayonnaise, canola oil.
BEVERAGES
Avoid: Regular and diet sodas, energy/sport drinks, alcoholic beverages, coffee, non-herbal teas, other caffeinated and decaf beverages, juices (apart from fresh pressed juice).
SPICES/CONDIMENTS
Avoid: Regular chocolate (with dairy and sugar), BBQ sauce, ketchup, Dijon mustard, relish, processed and hydrogenated oils, traditional soy sauce, teriyaki, chutney, mayonnaise/dressings with diary/gluten/sugars, prepackaged seasonings with gluten/dairy/sugars, breath mints, chewing gum.
SWEETENERS
Avoid: foods with refined sugars, cane sugar/juice, corn syrup, glucose, sucrose, dextrose, maple syrup, agave syrup, artificial sweeteners, sugar (white/brown).
