Follow these guidelines for a greener, cleaner laundry routine!
When purchasing laundry products:
- Avoid products that contain the following: phthalates, bleach, optical brighteners, petroleum, surfactants, phosphates, and pesticides
- Avoid toxic fabric softening chemicals and fragrances
- Use plant-based detergents and products with natural ingredients
- Look for products with recyclable or biodegradable packaging
Or make your own laundry products:
- Natural whiteners: try lemon juice, hydrogen peroxide, borax, or sunlight
- Natural detergent: combine 1 part borax, 1 part washing soda, and add 5-7 drops of essential oil for a natural scent, if desired
- Natural stain removers: try club soda, corn starch, or hydrogen peroxide
- Natural fabric softener: combine 1 cup vinegar, 2 tbsp baking soda, and 20 drops of essential oil
When washing your laundry:
- Use less detergent. HE (High Efficiency) machines require less water, energy, and significantly less detergent
- Do full loads of laundry
