25 Apr Ashwaganda Matcha Latte for Adrenal Fatigue
So many people suffer from fatigue and adrenal insufficiency. Chronic stress and lifestyle are the culprits and the reason most people will struggle with adrenal fatigue at some point in their life.
The adrenal glands are two thumb size organs that sit on top of your kidneys.
Here are the top signs of adrenal fatigue:
Relentless fatigue, regardless of good sleep
Overwhelmed with stress or anxiety
Poor memory or concentration
Thyroid condition – hypothyroid, Graves, Hashimoto’s
Storing excess body fat regardless of exercise and diet
Nutrition is so important at rehabilitation the adrenals and the top foods to eliminate are:
Caffeine and sugar will burn out your adrenal glands
Hydrogenated oils in stimulating foods (junk food)
Foods that support your adrenals:
Foods that are high in B vitamins and minerals like magnesium as well as foods that help stabilize blood sugar levels, including: olives, raw non-hydrogenated oils like coconut oil, sea weed, vegetables (chard, spinach, kale, etc) nuts and seeds, legumes. If you consume animal protein, choose quality sources (grass-fed, hormone-free). Fish such as mackerel, sardines and wild salmon are good protein sources as well.
Supplements that support the adrenal glands:
Adaptogenic herbs include the family of ashwaganda, holy basil, rhodiola, siberian ginseng, schisandra, licorice root. The number one adaptogen is ashwaganda. I believe it is the most beneficial herb along with a high quality B vitamin supplement and magnesium glycinate. My blog includes more information about adaptogenic herbal support, including the Adrenal Forte supplement.
Lastly, lower your overall stress level:
Aim for quality sleep: 7-9 hours of sleep per night
Work on rectifying your stress, even a 50% will significantly impact your energy
Add joy to your life: do the things you love!
Exercise without overdoing it: whatever you love to do: yoga, pilates, biking, running… getting out in nature is a big bonus!
The best approach to recovering from adrenal fatigue is to make balanced diet and lifestyle choices and to stick with them for at least 6 months. Follow these steps and you will be well on your way to curing your adrenal fatigue symptoms! There’s more in depth articles about adrenal fatigue and supportive naturopathic solutions on my Blog.
Ashwaganda Matcha Latte
A big mug of this every morning (but not after 1p because the matcha has caffeine and we want to support a nice secretion pattern for your cortisol) will keep you going for hours, plus it’s adrenal supportive! The good fat, from coconut oil, will help keep your blood sugar balanced. Matcha is high in epigallocatechin gallate, a potent antioxidant. Ashwaganda is a strong adaptogen.
Instructions:
1 Tbsp GI Renew (this has brown rice protein powder and steam extract mushrooms from a wild blend that includes chaga, shitake, reiki, coriolus and maitake). *option: 1 tbsp raw protein powder of your choice
1 tsp ashwaganda powder *option: 2 caps of Adrenal Forte
1 tsp matcha powder
1/2 tsp pine pollen
1 Tbsp raw coconut oil or 1/2 tsp MCT oil (I only use coconut oil once weekly, it is not a superfood that should be over consumed)
1 Tbsp collagen (I use Organika)
16 oz nearly boiling water
Directions:
Blend on high for 2 minutes in a quality blender. Optional: top with turmeric, cinnamon, pine pollen. Enjoy!!
